No school this week yey
Although on Tuesday, Jason and I will spend the whole day cleaning the apartment in preparation for The Visit. Wednesday night I'll be cleaning whatever last bits and probably finishing up thank-you cards, and cooking because some of it needs to be done the day before, I'll get up Thursday and work on last-minute details and probably watch the James Bond marathon until my parents arrive/it's time to start dinner.
Friday I work early morning, then I don't know what we'll be doing, breakfast probably, and we're meant to go see Pete and Becky sometime in the afternoon maybe? I'm not entirely sure.
Saturday is 10:30 to 3 so if Mom and Dad hang around we could go shopping? I would like to go shopping, at least a little, with Mom. I don't know. They'll probably be gone by then :(
AND we need to figure out when we can request off in January so we can plan our next trip down to SC!
So much to do, so little time to do it.

Domesticated
Been doing laundry all day. Wash, dry, fold. Repeat.
I can tell I'm an adult, because I slept in until 8:30 AM today and I felt like I'd slept 'till noon. That's what I get for letting myself be hired primarily to work mornings, though.
I work 5:30 PM to 10 PM tonight, oh joy. Jason works 7 to 4 today. I think the people at Wal-Mart like to schedule husbands and wives opposite shifts. I've noticed that a lot of the married people at Wal-Mart complain about it (there are actually quite a few people with spouses who work at the same Wal-Mart as them).
That and last night, basically all the cashiers were mad at the CSM's, as they spent basically the whole day (I was there from 11 to 8, so this is my experience) doing basically nothing and then acting all surprised when no one went to break on time, AT ALL. Oh well, I mean, I was okay, but one of the girls is pregnant and she was getting pretty sick and on the verge of getting locked out by the time they let her go to lunch.
On the bright side, pizza for lunch yesterday.
Still have the last of the thank-you cards to get through, but my goal is to get them done by Thanksgiving so my mother doesn't whap me upside the head for having them so late. :)
Other than that, the cat has been whiny as can be today, and it is making me reconsider my eventual plan to adopt two kittens in a few years, when we're out in SC. I'm not sure I can handle this times two. Which I suppose tells me I am SO not ready for kids.
Goals:
1. Finish folding laundry.
2. Get bedding ready for Jason to wash once he gets home/I leave for work
3. Eat pudding.
4. Go to work.
5. Nab food for Thanksgiving after work, plus one pair work pants, plus new laundry soap, as we are almost out.
6. SLEEP.

So... it's cold.
Indeed!
Counting down the days until my mom and dad come to visit for Thanksgiving. I've got a menu planned for Thanksgiving dinner and everything. Just got two cavities filled on Wednesday, which is of course always just a rockin' good time.
Jason and I were talking to each other about Christmas gifts, and it occurred to me that both of us have said "Well, I don't really -need- anything" or a similar sentiment several times, every time this discussion has come up.
Good heavens, we're turning into adults.

Not my day.
For a number of reasons. But the most recent and most extreme is that my car wouldn't start when I got out of class, and I left my cell phone at home because it was raining so hard when I left and to walk to class from the parking lot is still a bit of a walk. And I couldn't remember Jason's number.
So a very nice young man from Chicago let me borrow his cell phone to call Kristin. Midway through the first call I remembered that Kristin never, NEVER answers her cell phone if she doesn't know the number. It is a pretty effective method of call-screening, but it wasn't helping me out right then. So I called a second time and left a message telling her my car had broken down, send Jason with jumper cables.
No response.
So I asked a second young man, whose phone was malfunctioning but whose call apparently did go through. Still nothing.
Finally, after waiting longer, I found a nice young lady named Lauren who let me use her cell phone to call, leave a second message, adn finally text message Kristin to let her know to check her voicemail. At which point she said that Jason was coming.
Kristin hadn't checked the voicemail prior to that, so I'm very glad this Lauren lady thought of texting.
Anyway, Jason got my car to start and we drove home, but man, my mood is not the best. I mean, the whole day was basically a wash and I have to be at class in less than twelve hours and really... bah.
Anyway.

Worker Bee
I have the day off school AND off work, not that it's going to mean much rest... I have one painting I just finished, I need to start on the next (due next Tuesday), have a bunch of drawing stuff I need to work on and eventually I need to start taking pictures for the presentation I have to give tomorrow, which has to be put together in powerpoint and frakly that will only take me about an hour... and at some point I need to start working on the readings for Thursday in my languages class.
Bah.
Bah.

Short Note
So I accidentally closed my phone in Jason's car door the other day, and broke the screen somewhat. My phone isn't really working that well. For now, I can still make calls, but I won't be able to get the new phone until the thirteenth or so of the month... so it may go down entirely. If it does, uhm, just call Jason's phone, or e-mail me. Actually, just e-mail me, seriously. jason never looks at his phone.

Very slight politics, but not really
My dad was on the front page of the local paper!

I'll post the picture here off of my photobucket:
"This is history -- first time I've seen a line to vote in McLean," Randy VanHoorn of McLean said Tuesday while leaving the polling place set up in the Mt. Hope Funks Grove Park District building on West Street. (The Pantagraph/STEVE SMEDLEY)

When I leave the Big Blue for another job, my last day will be spent telling every single customer exactly what I think about their behavior, for good or ill. I will call them out on every snide comment, I will speak up about every ounce of laziness, I will respond to their entitlement with cold refusal to take it. I will compliment profusely those who treat me like a human being, I will aid the injured and elderly beyond even my normal capabilities. But I will be honest.
If you can't tell, I didn't have a great day at work.
