I got nothin'.

Jason got lost of birthday cards, which was exciting. Our kitchen randomly has no power, which is less exciting. The rest of the apartment has power, though, so we don't know what's going on. A maintenance guy is meant to be bringing us an extension cord but so far, none is forthcoming.

Uhm.

I'm going to bed. I started serious cashier stuff today and my hips hurt.

You say it's your birthday, na-na-na-na, well it's my birthday too...

Jason got a card from Grandma Swearingen today! Yay birthdays. And I am for sure starting at Wal-Mart on Saturday. Had the interview with Payless and they just can't offer me the same pay/hours as Wal-Mart can and, well, I'm going for it.

mmmn, more coffee is needed.

So I'm enjoying my last official unemployed day.

Thursday, September 25, 2008

... well then. That was fast.

Got a call today. I'm in for Wal-Mart, orientation on Saturday if I take the job. I still have to interview with Payless, but for all intents and purposes I'm employed by Wal-Mart.

Jason got his first birthday card in the mail today! from Mr. Bob and Miss Carol.

... All righty then.

Sped through a couple of quick interviews with Wal-Mart, did the drug test, and now we play the waiting game... as long as my background check/drug test are cool (there's no reason they shouldn't be; I've never been convicted of any crime... I've never actually even been charged with one... and if my drug test comes up as anything but negative for all of 'em, I will be the most shocked out of all of us, believe me) then I'm in. I'm still doing the Payless interview on Friday. We'll see what they can offer me.

Wally World is offering a pretty good little deal though. We'll see.

Class tonight. Hopefully fairly short. Tomorrow I need to work really really hard on foot and hand studies for drawing class and hopefully in that time period we can manage to vaccuum the bedroom and the back room. Kristin got her sister's Dyson (Kristin's good vaccuum is broken currently) and the amount of stuff it's picking up is both amazing and vaguely unsettling.

It'll make it a lot easier to flea-bomb the place if we've got it nice and vaccuumed.

State of Mind

Got a call from Wal-Mart today. Going in to see them at 10:15 Am tomorrow morning. I'm still going to do the Payless interview. We'll see which one offers better hours/paycheck/will actually hire me.

Monday, September 22, 2008

Well... that's somethin'.

No concrete results for anyone reading this, but I had a short interview on the phone with Payless and am having an in-person interview at noon on Friday. So... keep those fingers crossed? Your joints'll be hurtin'...

Ugh. Job hunts are so annoying. i had forgotten.

Cross your fingers

Payless called and I have a phone interview at 1:30 PM Monday afternoon.

My poor baby girl

We had to put a flea collar on the cat last night. I found a couple of fleas on her and... well. Jason got the collar on her pretty quick with me kind of helping to hold her still. I think she would've lashed out or swiped at us, but she loves us and was mostly just very hurt that we did such a thing.

She wouldn't let us touch her for a little while, and then she wandered around with her head low and her tail low, sort of creeping up to me for a petting and then going away and glaring at me from the corner. By the end of the night, though, she was back in my lap. She's not happy, but she is signaling that she's at least willing to put up with it, for now.

We're hoping a couple of months will be enough.

It's so hard to do stuff like that to her when I know she hasn't done anything wrong. I love my kitty and hurting her feelings and making her feel bad makes -me- feel bad.

Turned in a bunch of applications today and picked up my last paycheck from my old workplace. you'd have think I'd grown horns by the looks they gave me. Oh well. I have a full tank of gas, so that's nice.

Jason comes home in an hour and a half from work! Yay!

The downside to being unemployed... or upside, I guess, depending on your point of view... is that I count down the hours until Jason gets back from work. Kristin and I mostly just watch TV and Leium.

Speaking of Practice Baby, Leium has been in a really good mood all day, only fussy when he got tired and needed a nap. Cross your fingers, folks.

Weird

Been really tired for the past few days; like, all the time. Can't figure it out.

Weather has gotten nice and cool outside... I'm so excited to start wearing real fall clothes.

Jason had today off!

Actually...

Grandma VanHoorn asked (albeit in e-mail), but it occured to me that other members of the family may be vaguely interested as well. If you're not, uhm... I guess don't read it? :)

What do you have to do for your thesis to graduate?

Well first, I have to get together a "committee" of three professors. So far I've got Erin Palmer, who is a professor who mainly paints but who has been one of my best drawing teachers so far; Ed Shay, who taught me watercolor and who is kind of an awesome aging hippie; and Najjar Abdul-Musawwir, who teaches Mixed Media and is seriously a very enthusiastic free spirit. The three of them sort of, in different ways, go along with the kind of stuff I like to do. I just have to fill out the paperwork and we're set.

After that, I have to submit a thesis proposal to them. I write up a big old statement with what I want to do, the proposed size of my pieces and how big a gallery space they'll take up, what it all means, etc. They say it's cool? Then I start working.

Your last semester is usually spent mostly working on your thesis, so that'll be next semester.

I have to get a gallery space for about a week; this can cost between 50$ to 500$, depending on the space and whether or not I use one from the school (I'm planning to). I'm hoping to plan my show for early May or late April... then Jason and I are planning to go to Portland, Oregon for a week just to sightsee and go somewhere we've never been before. (Yes, that choice was completely random).

Because I'm a Drawing major, I'm expected to focus mainly on drawing works for my thesis-- which is the plan!

Right now I'm finishing up a painting for my Advanced Painting class... then I need to read a couple chapters for Indigenous Languages of North America... then I need to work on some foot studies for my drawing class... those three things are due on Tuesday.

I have some cute pictures of Jason and the cat to put up tomorrow. Until then:

Walkout

Had a long post here, but oh well. In any case, walked off the job yesterday, and it felt wonderful. I know you should wait until you have another job to quit, but... things had gotten bad enough that I was sort of afraid of the kind of person I was turning into from working there.

Madwoman

I'm applying all sorts of places. We'll see what happens.

In the meantime, I get my paycheck tomorrow and I'm going to try and explain to Assistant Manager that making things deliberately harder on herself in an attempt to make me feel bad for quitting is not actually a productive thing to do.

Monday, September 1, 2008

Okay, not so much.

Turns out all the managers got Labor Day off at Wal-Mart, so I'm probably not going to get a call 'til tomorrow. That's okay, too!

Have a ton of homework to do, but having a hard time focusing on it. Jason and I are definitely a pair, I guess... neither one of us can do homework to save our lives.
